Recycled Rhythms

At this year’s Bournemouth Art Show, we stumbled upon a fantastic display of recycled musical instruments that immediately caught Gabriel’s eye. Made from traffic cones, plastic tubing, tin cans, and all sorts of repurposed materials, these unique instruments were there for everyone to try, and Gabriel couldn’t wait to dive in.

Gabriel started with a “trumpet” made from a traffic cone attached to a piece of tubing. He blew into it, and out came a surprisingly bold sound that made us both laugh.

Next, he moved to the tin-can drum set, where he quickly found his rhythm, drumming along with makeshift sticks and discovering the different tones each can produced. He was in his element, experimenting with beats and improvising as he went along.

It was fascinating to see how these everyday objects had been transformed into something so fun and interactive. Gabriel was fully absorbed, moving from instrument to instrument and even inventing his own “songs” as he went along.

This hands-on, eco-friendly experience left us both inspired. It was a reminder that music can be made with just about anything if you have the creativity and spirit to try. Gabriel left the show with a huge smile, buzzing with excitement and ideas for our next recycling project!
