Your child used to tell you everything. Now you get one-word answers and a closed door

You noticed before anyone else did. That is not a coincidence. Mothers always do.
One question. One hour. Nothing corrected. That is where it starts.

WELCOME TO GABRIEL’S WORLD

WELCOME TO

GABRIEL’S WORLD

THE DISTANCE DID NOT ARRIVE ALL AT ONCE

They still answer. They still say they are fine. But the stories that once spilled out so easily have become harder to reach.

You have tried asking better questions, suggesting activities and creating more time together. But children can feel the agenda behind every attempt.

StoryQuest begins differently.

Your child is not asked to explain themselves. They are simply given the freedom to createand someone who is ready to listen.

ONE QUESTION. ONE HOUR. THEIR WORLD.

On Friday evening, you ask one question and let your child lead.

They choose the characters, create the world and decide where the story goes. Every idea is theirs. Every word is captured exactly as they say it.

You do not correct, guide or rush them. You simply listen, follow their imagination and give them the space to be completely themselves.

It begins with a story. But what you create together is something much bigger: connection.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THE AGENDA DISAPPEARS

They start talking again

Not because you found better questions, but because their answers are no longer being judged, corrected or redirected.

Friday becomes something they ask for

StoryQuest stops feeling like another activity you arranged. It becomes time they know belongs to them.

THIS BEGAN WITH ONE HOUR A WEEK

A ten-year-old boy was trusted to tell his own story. Now, his world is helping other children discover the power of theirs.

Book 1 contains six short adventures from Coral Cove, created entirely from Gabriel’s imagination and captured without correction. Perfect for children ages 6–12, including independent readers, bedtime readers and children who have started losing confidence in their own ideas.

The book is free. You pay only the cost of getting it to your door.

PROOF AND EVIDENCE

The difference becomes visible when children are given room to lead. Across classrooms, families and professional audiences, StoryQuest is showing what happens when a child’s voice is trusted before it is corrected.

CHILDREN FIND THEIR VOICE

“I didn’t know I had so many stories inside me until I was allowed to let them out.”

CREATIVITY WITHOUT FEAR

“I could write anything I wanted, and it wouldn’t be wrong.”

ENGAGEMENT WITHOUT PRESSURE

465 children. Nine UK schools. 100% engagement. Zero behavioural incidents.

No noise. No constant selling. Just one thoughtful letter each week.

THE STORY BEHIND STORYQUEST

It Began With One Hour on a Friday Evening.

Kate Markland had sixty minutes a week with her ten-year-old son, Gabriel. There was no classroom, no worksheet and no plan for what those minutes should become. There was only a screen, his voice and a mother determined not to lose the world inside him.

One Friday evening, Kate asked him a question.

Gabriel answered with a character. Then another. Soon there was an electric platypus named Platy, a seaside village called Coral Cove and a two-headed sea monster waiting beyond the shore.

Kate did not interrupt. She did not improve the story or correct a single word. She simply listened and wrote everything down.

Friday by Friday, Gabriel’s world grew. What began as one hour between a mother and her son became two Amazon bestsellers and, eventually, the beginning of StoryQuest.

But the books are only part of what they discovered.

Because when a child is trusted to author their own world, something changes in the connection between you.

“We built Coral Cove in the dark. That is why it shines.”

KATE MARKLAND | AUTHOR, RESEARCHER AND SPEAKER

Nothing Corrected

What becomes possible when a leader, teacher or parent stops imposing the answer and starts listening for what is already trying to emerge?

Through the story of Coral Cove, the Portal Moment and the vehicle Gabriel named Trust, Kate shows audiences how creativity changes when people feel safe enough to contribute their real ideas.

Her talk can be adapted for:

Business and leadership audiences
Culture, creativity, trust and purpose-first leadership.

Education and school audiences
Engagement, reluctant writers and child-led creativity.

Parent and family audiences
Connection, listening and helping children find their voice.
