Painting Sun Catchers
Kate Markland
One afternoon, Gabriel and I decided to brighten up his bedroom by painting sun catchers. We had a few different designs to choose from, and Gabriel picked out a rocket, a dolphin, an owl and a dragon! Armed with colourful paints and brushes, we sat down at the table, ready to create something special.
Gabriel carefully painted his rocket, making sure the flames at the bottom were a bright, fiery oranges. The dolphin came next, with a soft blue for the body and a white belly to make it stand out. But the dragon? That was the real masterpiece! He chose bold reds, giving it a fierce look, just like the dragons from his favourite stories.
Once they dried, we hung them up in Gabriel’s bedroom window. As soon as the sun peeked through the clouds, the colours lit up the room, casting bright, playful patterns on the walls. Gabriel loved how the light made his creations come to life, and every time the sun shines, it’s like there’s a little bit of magic in his room.
Now, whenever he looks out of his window, those sun catchers remind him of the fun we had creating them together, and they add a splash of colour to even the gloomiest days.
