Fair Fun: Rides, Somersaults, and Candy Floss

Kate Markland

Our trip to Tewkesbury Fair was the highlight of Gabriel’s week! With his pocket lined with a little treat from Granny just for the fair, he was ready to go all out on the rides and games. A friend joined us, making the day even more lively, as the two of them tackled everything the fair had to offer.

The Fun House Adventure

Gabriel and his friend darted to the Fun House. They were all smiles, navigating the maze of mirrors, rope bridges, and moving floors. Every twist and turn had them in fits of laughter, especially when the floors shifted beneath their feet. Gabriel led the way with a big grin, his eyes sparkling with excitement as they raced from one room to the next. It was a wonderful reminder of how sometimes, the simplest things bring the biggest smiles!

Flying High on the Bungee Trampoline

Next up was the bungee trampoline—a big hit! Strapped in, Gabriel bounced higher and higher, gaining confidence with every jump. Soon, he was attempting somersaults, flipping through the air as if he’d been doing it for years. His friend was right next to him, cheering him on and joining in with their own jumps . They looked like little acrobats against the sky, and I couldn’t help but feel a little thrill for them both as they mastered those flips.

The Spinning Boom Challenge

One of the most hilarious moments was the “Jump or Get Knocked Over” ride, where a spinning boom circled and the goal was to jump over it without getting taken down. Gabriel and his friend eagerly stepped up, laughing as they jumped the boom again and again, testing their agility and timing. A few times, the boom caught them by surprise, but they laughed it off, determined to keep trying until they could time it perfectly.

Candy Floss and Fairground Memories

And what’s a fair without candy floss? Before we wrapped up, Gabriel used his last bit of Granny’s treat money for a big swirl of pink cotton candy. The two friends shared bites, sticky fingers and all, as we wandered back through the lights and sounds of the fairground.

It was an evening packed with energy, friendship, and nonstop laughter. Gabriel went home with happy memories, a bit of sticky candy floss still on his fingers, and a huge grin that lasted the whole ride back.

Granny’s treat had certainly gone a long way, creating the kind of joy only a fairground can deliver.
