Meeting Louie Stowell and Winning Loki
Kate Markland
Our latest adventure took us to the Cheltenham Literature Festival, where Gabriel and I had the pleasure of attending a session with Louie Stowell, the author behind the beloved Loki books.
Gabriel, a big fan of Norse mythology (with a mischievous streak not unlike Loki’s!), was beyond excited to meet Louie and hear more about her humorous take on the gods of Asgard.
The session was lively from the start. Louie didn’t just talk about Loki’s antics—she brought the Norse world to life for her young audience.
She even gave everyone a mini drawing lesson, showing us how to draw Thor, in her playful style.
Gabriel followed along eagerly, sketching his own mini Thor with serious concentration.
Then came a moment Gabriel won’t soon forget: Louie posed a question to the audience, and Gabriel’s hand shot up with confidence. He answered correctly and, to his delight, won a very special prize—an illustration of Loki that Louie had drawn live during the session!
Gabriel beamed as he collected his prize, admiring every line and detail of Loki’s face.
As we left the festival, Gabriel kept chatting about the day’s events, inspired to keep reading, drawing, and, of course, finding a bit of “Loki-style mischief” in everyday life.
The drawing has found a proud place in Gabriel’s room, a constant reminder of his special day with one of his favourite authors.
