A Letter to Myself

Kate Markland

Gabriel had the brilliant idea to write a letter to himself. He rummaged through our art supplies and found a stack of stationery and an envelope, but what really excited him was the thought of using his great-grandad’s old wax seal.

With everything set up, Gabriel carefully crafted his letter. Once he finished, he neatly folded the letter and slid it into the envelope, feeling a sense of accomplishment.

Next came the fun part: melting the wax! We lit a small candle, and Gabriel watched in awe as the flame flickered. He carefully held the wax stick over the flame until it began to melt. With a steady hand, he dripped the molten wax onto the envelope, creating a beautiful, shiny puddle.

“Now for the stamp!” he exclaimed, holding up the old seal. He pressed it firmly into the warm wax, and a moment later, we lifted it to reveal a perfect imprint. Gabriel’s face lit up with joy as he admired his handiwork—the unique blend of creativity and history.

Once the wax cooled, Gabriel held the envelope up triumphantly. He was so proud of this little piece of art, and he knew it was something he could cherish for years to come. The experience not only taught him about the art of letter writing and sealing but also deepened his connection to his great-grandad’s legacy.

It was a wonderful blend of imagination, history, and hands-on learning—a perfect way to capture a moment in time.
