Strumming New Chords
Kate Markland
Gabriel has always had a natural curiosity for music, so when he expressed an interest in learning to play the guitar, we knew it was time to dive into this new adventure. His excitement was palpable as he watched YouTube videos, eager to learn how to strum his first chords.
One day, a lovely surprise came our way when a friend generously offered Gabriel a guitar they no longer used. It was a beautiful acoustic guitar, a bit worn but filled with character, just like a well-loved storybook. Gabriel’s eyes lit up as he carefully examined it, running his fingers over the strings, already imagining the songs he would play.
With the guitar in hand, he wasted no time getting started. We set up a cozy corner in our living room, where he could practice without distractions. I watched as he plucked the strings, attempting to follow along with the tutorials he had saved. He experimented with new sounds, growing more confident with every strum.
It was incredible to see how learning the guitar not only brought him joy but also taught him the value of patience and practice. As the days passed, he started to pick up simple melodies.
Gabriel’s determination to master the guitar, paired with the gift from his friend, opened a door to a world of music. It became a bonding experience for us as well, and it felt like we were creating our own little concert at home.
I can’t wait to see how his skills develop and where this musical journey will take him next!
