Building Our Perfect Snowman
Kate Markland
There’s something wonderfully magical about waking up to a proper snowfall in the UK, the kind that blankets the garden in white and calls for coats, gloves, and boots as we rush outside. Gabriel and I didn’t waste a minute—our minds were set on building a snowman in the back garden.
We started by rolling the first, biggest snowball, which would make the solid base for our snowman. Next came the middle section, packed tightly so it would balance just right on top, and finally, the smallest snowball for the head. Gabriel giggled as we heaved each layer into place, and soon, our snowman was standing tall, with his proud frosty grin facing the house.
For the finishing touches, we hunted through the kitchen to find the essentials. A carrot became his nose, and we found a few small stones to press into his face as his eyes I donated my blue scarf to keep him cozy, and Gabriel contributed a broom for that classic snowman look. We stood back and admired our winter creation, feeling just a little proud of the character we’d given him.
There’s something so satisfying about making a snowman together, seeing Gabriel’s pure joy at each step of the process, from gathering snow to picking out his “features.” Our snowy friend stood proudly in the garden for a few days, until the sun melted him down into a memory we won’t soon forget—a little reminder of the wonder of a real winter day.
