Blackpool Illuminations Shine Brighter Every Year
Kate Markland
One of our favorite traditions has become our annual trip to see the Blackpool Illuminations, and every year seems to bring a new twist on this sparkling experience! The first time Gabriel and I went, it was packed with cars inching along the promenade. Gabriel was thrilled, leaning out through the sunroof to get a full view of the glowing displays as we crawled along. The excitement of the lights made the slow pace feel like a part of the magic, with each inch revealing a new burst of color.
The following year, we smartened up a bit and chose a weekday for our visit. This time, we sailed right through—no queues, no waiting. We even managed to park right outside the iconic Blackpool Tower, which felt like an extra-special treat. The lights were just as mesmerising without the traffic, and Gabriel had all the time he needed to take in every twinkle and sparkle.
This year’s trip was particularly special, as we invited Granny and Grandad along. After a lively fish and chip dinner on the promenade, we made our way to the tower and headed up after dark, right as the fireworks display began.
Watching the Blackpool Illuminations from above was breathtaking, with colours spreading in every direction and the fireworks lighting up the night sky. The best part was seeing the wonder on Gabriel’s face as he took it all in, even after returning to this tradition.
Each visit is a bit different, but the joy and magic of the Illuminations seem to grow each time. It's a reminder of the bright moments we can create as a family, and I can’t wait to see how next year’s Blackpool tradition will shine.
